The Vladimir Smirnov Foundation provides support on many levels to orphanage residents in several Russian regions. In addition to supporting the kids in our care with funds and tangible benefits, we try to help them socialize, and encourage their ambition to develop their skills and do well at school. The Foundation rewards the kids who achieve the greatest academic excellence by giving them traditional prizes under the Best Student and Graduate of the Year programs. An important part of our Foundation’s activities is deinstitutionalization of the Russian orphanage system by supporting and creating small shared accommodation centers where kids can be comfortable and develop skills of family living.
Support Program for N.N. Ivanova Children’s City Hospital No. 1 and targeted support for children living with cancer and hematological diseases in Samara.
The Vladimir Smirnov Foundation provides support to children living with cancer and blood conditions at the N.N. Ivanova Children’s Hospital in Samara, including cash donations to purchase necessary drugs and equipment.
Every year, more than 700 patients with cancer and blood diseases at the Onco-Hematological of Samara’s Children’s Hospital No. 1 receive specialized support. Some receive surgery and chemotherapy, high-dosage multiple-agent chemotherapy, hormone therapy and other methods. A Laminar Flow Hood is used to provide high-dose chemotherapy. The unit is equipped with apparatus for long-term infusion therapy (B.Braun, Atom infusion pumps). There are plans to introduce autotransplants of hematopoietic stem cells. The center uses European treatment programs and protocols recommended by the Russian children’s cancer research centers.
In addition, The Vladimir Smirnov Foundation has been providing targeted support for children with oncohematological diseases (blood cancers) in Samara for over three years.
