Film "Is the Holocaust Wallpaper Paste?" Screened

On 29 May 2014, "Is the Holocaust Wallpaper Paste?", a documentary by Mumin Shakirov, which caused a sensation at the Moscow International Film Festival in 2013 was screened for the film club of Elena Pogrebizhskaya. Apparently, a couple of girls when asked, "What is the Holocaust?" did not realise that their answer would somehow be related to their own life. The show took place at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Centre followed by a discussion with its film director talking about his impressions and thoughts about the film. The audience aged between 19 and 50 had a vehement discussion about the picture. We also participated energetically in the discussion.

PROFLAB Field Workshop

On 25 May 2014, Robert Tuikin ran our first field workshop titled "Safety Matters. Tourist Skills", within the framework of the PROFLAB Educational Project. Every tourist coach must be aware of dangers faced by a child participating in the programme and be able to minimize them. To this end, rules should be elaborated and observed. We taught how to: - rescue the drowning child; - chop wood safely; - catch a child falling from heights; and - carry a child in case of an emergency. Backed by theory, attendees practised to acquire basic skills. The fine fair weather, forest and fresh air were very helpful for digesting new information.

Visit to "The Road to the World Centre."

On 23 May 2014, Vladimir Smirnov, the Foundation founder, and Olga Kruglova, its administrative director, visited the partner Interregional Social Organization "The Road to the World". The guests looked into the current activities of colleagues, and explored new avenues for cooperation. "The Road to the World" was established in the summer of 1997 to unite families that were bringing up children with various development disorders, which include autism, mental deficiency, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, genetic disorders and others. "The Road to the World" carries out a broad range of activities. These embrace health rehabilitation, running a summer camp, and creating training or job places for young people with special needs, and arranging groups of psychological support for parents. Currently, "The Road to the World" is a caregiver for 30 children. From the next school year, their number is expected to be 45-50. That suggests that such families do not keep to themselves in a difficult situation and realize that their poor child can have a full and meaningful life! The Vladimir Smirnov Foundation continues to sponsor all the undertakings of "The Road to the World", and we are happy to be involved in this significant project.

The date of the school-leaving party coincided with the date of closing this school, therefore the bell was also the last one for the entire personnel. It was a surprise that the children had saved money for gifts to all teachers. We wish you all the best!
