Fundraising for NPOs: Law and Practice

1.       On 27 February 2014, Morgan Lewis, an international law firm, organized a round table for nonprofit organizations. The following issues were high on the workshop's agenda:

- organization of fundraising;

-work with corporate donors;

- state support to NPOs;

- donations of private persons;

- entrepreneurship;

- main issues of legal regulation;

- comparison of different methods;

- agreements and other documents.

During the discussion, Yulia Yermachenkova, fundraising manager of The Road Together CF and Ann Semyonova, deputy director of Our Children CF shared their experience and knowledge. The audience was active in the discussion and asked many questions. The workshop ended on a positive note. We are grateful to Anastasia Dergacheva and Vasilisa Strizh, the company staff, for an intensive workshop.

Show of "The Boys of Freedom Street" Documentary

20 February, "The Boys of Freedom Street", a documentary by Elena Pogrebizhskaya, was shown at the Minor Hall of the Cinema House. Elena presented her film to the audience personally. The picture shows a home where adopted children and their father live, and gives an insight into their life with its problems and solutions to them.

Donor Action at the Moscow State University of Food Production

The donor action was conducted together with the Blood Service on 20 February 2014 at the Moscow State University of Food Production. On that day 69 students of the University gave the warmth of their heart and soul to those who needed it badly. The students had the opportunity to join the donor movement. The donors were given food for donating blood and gifts from the Blood Service.

On 18 February, charitable foundations and NPOs met at the RF Ministry of Health to discuss co-financing of high-technology medical aid and drug supply. The topics covered included palliative care and medical aid to orphans and parentless children. Each working group had the floor to make its presentation.

On 13 February, Andrei, an inhabitant from the Home of ROST, celebrated his birthday as a family member for the first time. The event was staged as a warm family holiday with joyful games, a stroll under the starlit winter sky, funny contests and a delicious cake.

23rd session of the Target Capital Club

On 6 February 2014, the RF Social Chamber hosted the 23rd session of the Target Capital Club, where Elena Beregovaya, our foundation director, took part. The session discussed impediments to the development of a model for target capital funds in Russia. It was resolved to set up a committee for liaising with the state and developing proposals on law amendments, and write an open letter to Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister, suggesting improvements in the target capital mechanism. Besides, practical guidelines will soon be prepared for socially oriented non-commercial organizations intending to raise target capital.

On 5 February 2014, Elena Beregovaya, our foundation director, took part in a meeting of G. A. Ratnikova, adviser-tutor to the Tula region government, with representatives of charitable foundations and volunteer organizations. The Vladimir Smirnov Foundation cooperates with the Tula region government and regional social institutions. We rely on our further effective cooperation!
